Adds new provision making it unlawful for any person in custody of the Rhode Island Department of Corrections to use force or a weapon to resist a lawful request or directive by a corrections officer

Expands existing law that already prohibits using force or weapons to resist legal or illegal arrest by peace officers

Violations are punishable by a fine of up to $500, imprisonment for up to one year, or both

Effective immediately upon passage
