Rhode Island Senate resolution honors Sandra Lake, an immigrant from the Dominican Republic who arrived in 1999, for her contributions to women and communities in the state

Sandra Lake founded the Extraordinary Woman Award in 2001 and became the first person in Rhode Island to formally organize an annual International Women's Day observance on March 8th

The award grew into the Woman Development Institute (WDI), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit now marking 25 years of service providing leadership development, educational workshops, and bilingual programs for women, youth, and families

Sandra Lake holds a Bachelor of Arts in Education and Master of Science in Community Services, with a career as an educator at the high school and university levels

The Secretary of State is directed to transmit a certified copy of this resolution to Sandra Lake
