Rhode Island Senate celebrates "World Greek Language Day" on February 9, 2026, following UNESCO's unanimous declaration on November 12, 2025

UNESCO recognized Greek as having 40 centuries of oral tradition and 35 centuries of written tradition, making it the longest continuously spoken and written language in Europe

Secretary of State is directed to transmit certified copies of the resolution to the Greek Ambassador to the United Nations, the Ambassador of Greece to the United States, and Archbishop Elpidophoros of America

Resolution acknowledges the Greek language's contributions to global culture, including Homeric epics, Greek tragedies, Platonic dialogues, Aristotelian works, the New Testament, and Greek Orthodox patristic writings
