Eliminates periodic (ongoing) alimony and replaces it with time-limited alimony calculated at one year of payments for every three years of marriage

Alimony terminates upon the supported spouse's continued cohabitation, reaching Social Security retirement age, or death of either spouse

Replaces terminology throughout South Carolina family law code, changing "permanent" orders to "final" orders and "pendente lite" to "temporary relief"

Adultery by a spouse before signing a settlement agreement or entry of a final order bars that spouse from receiving alimony

Applies retroactively to any alimony order issued prior to the act's effective date
