Effective January 15, 2028, the Lieutenant Governor would serve as the Secretary of Transportation, replacing the current system where the commission appoints the position with Senate confirmation

Removes the provision that the Secretary of Transportation serves at the pleasure of the commission

Requires candidates for Governor to examine whether their Lieutenant Governor candidate possesses practical and successful business and executive ability and is knowledgeable in transportation

Eliminates the statutory provision tying the Secretary of Transportation's compensation to Section 8-11-160 and the general appropriations act
