Prisoners in the prison industries program who earn less than the federal minimum wage and have no child support obligations would no longer have 25% of their wages deducted for room and board costs

The 25% that would have been deducted for room and board must instead be made available to these lower-paid inmates for purchasing incidentals during incarceration

This additional 25% for incidentals is in addition to the existing 10% already allocated for that purpose under current law

The bill takes effect upon approval by the Governor
