Born December 3, 1947, in Charleston; earned bachelor's degree from The Citadel (1969), master's and doctorate from Clemson University (1970, 1975); taught at UNC-Charlotte, Old Dominion University, and Lander University until retirement in 2000

Co-authored an early Fortran programming textbook and published the monthly "Greenwood Business and Economic Report" for three decades; assisted Greenwood Genetic Center in obtaining computer imaging technology for genetic diagnosis

Developed the "Joy pad" computer accessibility device for his daughter Joy, who was born with Down Syndrome, and marketed it to special education classes throughout South Carolina

Volunteered through AARP Tax Aid to prepare taxes and served Main Street United Methodist Church by creating radio broadcasts and live streaming capabilities for services
