K-9 Wick was killed in the line of duty on June 20, 2024, while pursuing a suspect on I-77 after a stolen vehicle chase that began near Windsor Lake Boulevard

The chase involved a work van stolen on June 19, 2024, in Columbia and ended when deputies deployed stop sticks after a pursuit exceeding ten miles on I-77

K-9 Wick's leash became detached while crossing the median barrier with handler Specialist Zaid Abdullah, and he was struck by a passing vehicle while continuing pursuit
