Expands the definition of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature to include unlawful injury of law enforcement officers, corrections officers, healthcare professionals, healthcare workers, emergency response employees, and educational professionals during or because of their official duties

Currently, assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature requires either great bodily injury or acts likely to produce death or great bodily injury; this bill adds a third category based solely on the victim's profession

Educational professionals covered include school administrators, principals, counselors, teachers, and other educational providers who work on school grounds

Violation remains a felony punishable by up to 20 years imprisonment

Takes effect upon Governor's approval
