Public universities and colleges in South Carolina must establish mandatory annual performance evaluations for all faculty members, assessing teaching, research, service, administration, and other applicable areas.

Annual evaluations must include a summary rating of "exceeds performance expectations," "meets performance expectations," or "does not meet performance expectations," along with student course evaluations and peer evaluations.

Post-tenure review is required for every tenured faculty member at least once every six years, with the review process not to exceed nine months per faculty member.

Faculty receiving "does not meet performance expectations" twice within five years must undergo supplemental post-tenure review within six months and a remediation plan lasting up to twelve months; failure to improve triggers tenure revocation proceedings.

Institutions must submit an annual joint letter signed by the president and board chair by November 15 certifying compliance with these requirements to the Senate Education Committee, House Education and Public Works Committee, and Commission on Higher Education.
