Prohibits dental insurance companies (including policy writers, underwriters, reinsurers, and related third-party payment entities) from owning or participating in the business operations of dental practices, clinics, or other entities that provide dentistry, dental hygiene, or dental technological work

Adds these ownership restrictions to existing prohibitions on practicing dentistry or dental hygiene without a license, practicing during license suspension or revocation, and performing dental technological work without proper registration or supervision

Violations constitute a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $1,000 and/or imprisonment of up to six months, with each day of violation counting as a separate offense

The South Carolina Board of Dentistry would determine which entities qualify as providing third-party payment or reimbursement for dental services under this law
