South Carolina House Resolution congratulates the South Carolina Morticians Association on its 100th anniversary of service to the state

E.N. Isom of Chester conceived the idea of an association for Black funeral home directors in 1924, with the first meeting held in 1925 at Zion Baptist Church in Columbia

Originally named the Colored Funeral Directors and Embalmers Association of South Carolina, the organization was renamed the South Carolina Morticians Association, Inc. (SCMA) in the 1960s under Charles Mason's leadership

The association hosts annual conventions after Mother's Day to elect officers, maintains a legislative committee to monitor laws affecting the profession, and conducts workshops on state funeral regulations
