E.C. Nelson was married to Leanner Jackson for 66 years, with five surviving children, 17 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren

Worked as a track inspector with CSX Railroad for 20 years while simultaneously operating various businesses including a gas station, merchandise vendor operation, Soul Kitchen Food Truck, and DJ services

Founded multiple crime prevention organizations including the Crime Watch Alliance, Southeast Richland County Crime Watch Coalition, and served as president of the Lower Richland Crime Watch Alliance and Hopkins Crime Watch Association

Received the South Carolina State Association of Crime and Prevention Officers Vern Bartly Memorial Volunteer Award and contributed extensively to community service through voter registration drives and local events
