South Carolina House Resolution H4942 recognizes Michael Roye "Mike" Bennett, an eighth-generation Charlestonian who founded Bennett Hospitality in 1983 and Holy City Hospitality restaurant group

Bennett Hospitality has grown to include 25 properties across South Carolina, Georgia, and Montana, managing nearly 3,000 hotel keys and multiple restaurants, including Hotel Bennett which opened in 2019 and the Charleston Music Hall purchased in 1995

On January 9, 2026, the Bennett family announced the establishment of the Michael and Amy Bennett School of Hospitality and Tourism Management at the College of Charleston, the first named school in the college's history

Bennett established the Mother Emmanuel AME Church Endowed Scholarship at the College of Charleston following the 2015 church shooting and created a 15-year hospitality training exchange program with Dublin City University

Bennett received the Order of the Palmetto, South Carolina's highest civilian honor, and Hotel Bennett was awarded a Michelin Key in 2025
