South Carolina House Resolution congratulates Viola Holmes Greene of Georgetown County on her 90th birthday, celebrated January 17, 2026

Greene was born in Georgetown on January 17, 1936, attended Howard High School, and became the first female student council president in 1953

Earned a bachelor's degree in nursing from Quinnipiac University, a master's degree from Webster University, and served as a gastroenterologist assistant appointed from Yale University School of Medicine

In 1979, became the first African American registered occupational nurse at International Paper Company in Georgetown and served on executive boards of multiple organizations including the Red Cross, Salvation Army, and NAACP

Was married to Henry Greene, a U.S. Army veteran, for 66 years until his death in 2022, and has four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren
