South Carolina House Resolution honors Dr. Jean Kaseya, Director-General of the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), appointed by the African Union Assembly in February 2023

Dr. Kaseya brings nearly three decades of experience with global health institutions including UNICEF, Gavi, Clinton Health Access Initiative, and World Health Organization

His leadership established the Africa Health Security and Sovereignty (AHSS) Agenda, a framework to strengthen health systems, expand domestic financing, accelerate digital health governance, and build local manufacturing capacity

Under his stewardship, Africa CDC coordinated continental responses to major health threats including the mpox outbreak, strengthening cross-border surveillance and emergency preparedness

He serves as co-chair of the G20 High Level Independent Panel on Financing Pandemic Preparedness and Response and has championed the Africa Health Workforce Compact to expand and retain skilled health professionals across the continent
