Lt. Samuel J. Jenkins retired from the Orangeburg Department of Public Safety on March 12, 2026, after 40 years of service

Received multiple awards including the DEA Outstanding Contributions in Drug Enforcement, Southeast Region Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force recognition for Project Bitter Orange, and the Rotary Morning "Service Above Self" Award

Served on security teams for distinguished visitors to Orangeburg including then-candidate Barack Obama, President Joe Biden, Johnnie Cochran, and Bill Cosby

Overcame significant on-duty challenges including serious injuries from a vehicle accident requiring facial reconstruction and nearly a year of recovery, and responded to a 1993 Belk department store shooting that killed colleague Sgt. Thomas Harrison Jr.

South Carolina House of Representatives formally recognizes his career and directs that a copy of the resolution be presented to him
