Robert Eugene Ryggs is retiring after 28 years of service with the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT)

Served as permit engineer, district utility coordinator, and assistant director of right of way for utilities and railroads throughout his SCDOT career

Led all Upstate Utility Coordination Committee chapters as president or chairman at least once and currently chairs a national transportation research board committee on utility-DOT relationships

Holds a bachelor's degree in pastoral theology and M.Ed. in School Administration from Hyles-Anderson College, completed SCDOT L.E.A.D. program in 2023, and earned Certified Public Manager credential

Prior to SCDOT, worked as assistant principal, principal, and high school teacher, as well as in pastoral roles at churches and Christian schools in Florida, Indiana, and Maryland
