Koon holds degrees from Clemson University (B.A. in political science, history, and English) and University of South Carolina School of Law (J.D.)

Currently serves as senior vice president and general counsel of The Electric Cooperatives of South Carolina, Inc., which provides power to more than 70% of the state's population across all 46 counties

Has held numerous leadership positions including president of the South Carolina Bar Association, president of the South Carolina Bar Foundation, and chair of the Board of Directors of Appleseed Legal Justice Center

Received multiple honors including USC School of Law's "Compleat Lawyer" award, 2017 SC Lawyers Weekly "Leadership in the Law" award, and selection to The State newspaper's 2009 "20 Under 40" class
