Honors his civil rights work as field director at Penn Center, where he personally transported Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and participated in Southern Christian Leadership Conference planning

Acknowledges his founding of Beaufort-Jasper Comprehensive Health Services, which now serves over 25,000 people, and his co-founding of the Hilton Head Fishing Cooperative to secure economic opportunities for local Black fishermen

Recognizes his role as founding chairman of the Mitchelville Preservation Project and co-author of "Gullah Days: Hilton Head Islanders Before the Bridge (1861-1956)"
