Carlisle served over 35 years as head coach of the University of South Carolina Aiken men's golf team, leading the Pacers to 31 NCAA Tournament appearances and 3 NCAA Division II National Championships

Received numerous coaching honors including three-time NCAA Division II National Coach of the Year, eight-time NCAA Regional Coach of the Year, and 2010 inductee into the Golf Coaches Association of America Hall of Fame

As an amateur golfer, won the Carolinas Amateur, South Carolina Mid-Amateur, and Palmetto Amateur three times, and competed on Clemson's 1980 team that first qualified for the NCAA championship

Helped establish the Aiken Chapter of the South Carolina Junior Golf Association in 1989, growing it to over 200 junior golfers within five years and hosting more than 580 events since inception
