South Carolina State University's "Great Eight" football players are honored for their historic legacy and contributions to collegiate athletics during an era when African American student athletes faced systemic barriers to opportunity and equity

The eight players recognized are: John Alford (Miami Dolphins), Edwin Bailey (Seattle Seahawks), Charlie Brown (Washington Redskins), Robert Geathers (Buffalo Bills), William Judson (Miami Dolphins), Angelo King (Dallas Cowboys), Chris Ragland (Washington Redskins), and Leroy Robinson (Philadelphia Eagles)

South Carolina State University, founded in 1896, is recognized as a cornerstone of academic excellence and cultural legacy within the state

The resolution connects the Great Eight's legacy to the cultural heritage of the Gullah Geechee people and the Gullah Harambee gathering, which is dedicated to uplifting historically overlooked contributions

A copy of this Senate resolution will be presented to each member of the "Great Eight"
