Non-vested members of the Police Officer's Retirement System who die in the line of duty will have a one-time lump sum benefit payment paid to their designated beneficiary

The benefit payment equals the greater of the member's accumulated contributions or $75,000

Death must result from injury by external accident or violence incurred while performing duties and facing hazards peculiar to the member's employment

Deaths caused by willful negligence, suicide, or intentionally self-inflicted injury are excluded from eligibility

The act takes effect upon approval by the Governor
