Born March 16, 1936, in Colleton County, graduated from Colleton Training School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education from Allen University where he played football and sang with the Allen Choir

Served nine years in the United States Army beginning in 1959, stationed in Germany, Korea, and Vietnam, receiving the Silver Star of Gallantry in Action (third highest military award), Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and Army Commendation Medal with V Device for Heroism

Worked over thirty years as supervisor and foreman for Wildwood Landscaping Company, contributing to projects throughout downtown Charleston including the famous pineapple fountain

Active member of Isaiah United Methodist Church serving as choir member, class leader, certified Lay Speaker, and treasurer; married to Agnes Elizabeth Bright for sixty-five years until her death in 2024, survived by three daughters, four granddaughters, and one great-grandson
