South Carolina General Assembly formally recognizes and honors veterans from the state who served in the Global War on Terrorism, initiated after the September 11, 2001 attacks

More than 55,000 active-duty service members from South Carolina served in the conflict across all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces

South Carolina service members participated in Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan) and Operation Iraqi Freedom (Iraq)

More than 100 South Carolinians died in service during the conflict, with many others returning with physical and psychological injuries

Copies of the resolution will be distributed to veterans' organizations and agencies throughout the state as recognition of their service
