Classifies medetomidine and any materials, compounds, mixtures, or preparations containing it as a Schedule III controlled substance under South Dakota law (chapter 34-20B)

Exempts veterinary use when dispensing, prescribing, or administering FDA-approved medetomidine drugs to animals

Permits manufacturing, distributing, or using medetomidine as an active pharmaceutical ingredient for approved animal drugs or those with investigational use exemptions

Allows licensed pharmacists and veterinarians to use medetomidine bulk chemicals for pharmaceutical compounding

Preserves any other uses approved or permissible under federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act provisions (21 U.S.C. §§ 301-399i)
