Owners of electric motor vehicles must pay an annual fee of $100 in addition to standard license fees, collected at the time of annual registration

Electric motorcycles are exempt from this fee if they pay the license fee under § 32-5-9

"Electric motor vehicle" is defined as a noncommercial vehicle powered solely by an electric motor with an externally rechargeable battery, eligible for interstate highway use and meeting NHTSA safety standards (49 C.F.R. § 571, January 1, 2021)

All fees collected are deposited into the state highway fund
