South Dakota Department of the Military must pay a stipend to National Guard members who donate an organ for transplantation to another individual

Stipend equals 50% of active-duty basic monthly pay for recovery times of two weeks or less, or 150% of monthly pay for recovery times exceeding two weeks, as certified by a licensed medical practitioner

Members must provide at least one month's advance notice to the Department of the Military, follow all National Guard organ donation procedures, and undergo the operation at a transplant hospital

Members are ineligible for the stipend if they receive living donor paid leave from their employer
