Nonresident active-duty military personnel stationed in South Dakota and their dependents may apply for an exemption from motor vehicle license fees for noncommercial automobiles, pickup trucks, or vans

Applicants must submit military orders or documentation proving nonresident status and active-duty assignment in South Dakota with their registration application

Exemption limited to one motor vehicle per qualifying applicant and may be renewed annually

Specialty plate fees are not included in the exemption and must still be paid

Motor vehicle excise tax on purchase price remains required and is not waived under this exemption
