Mayoral vacancies must be filled by majority vote of aldermen, with the council president serving as mayor pro tempore until filled; vice president assumes role if council president is absent or incapacitated

Eligibility for elective office requires being a qualified voter and residing in the municipality for at least three months preceding election or appointment

Municipal officers must file oath of office within ten days of appointment/election; failure to file creates a vacancy; officers leaving office must deliver all municipal property to successors within five days

Ordinances adopting national building, electrical, plumbing, safety, fire, or health codes need only publish notice of adoption for two successive weeks rather than full text publication

Elected officers may serve in volunteer unsalaried positions or receive up to $10,000 annually for municipal services; second/third class municipalities may compensate elected officers above $10,000 for ambulance service
