Legislative Description

As introduced, enacts the "Local School District Empowerment Act," which provides for reestablishment of elected office of school superintendent for county or city school systems upon two-thirds vote of county or city governing body and approval in an election on the question by the voters in 10 LEAs as a pilot program to allow the department to study the relevant procedures of reestablishing the office; provides for qualifications of candidates; adjusts duties of the local board of education in county or city school systems electing superintendents. - Amends TCA Title 49.
