Local school boards and public charter schools must adopt policies requiring K-8 students to keep wireless devices (cell phones, tablets, laptops, gaming devices) turned off and stowed away during the entire instructional day, while grades 9-12 must do so during instructional time only.

Teachers may permit students to use wireless devices for educational purposes during instructional time.

Students may use wireless devices to monitor health concerns as prescribed by their healthcare provider, or if device use is included in their IEP or 504 plan.

Schools must establish a process to contact parents in the event of an emergency or possible emergency.

Takes effect upon becoming law and applies beginning with the 2025-2026 school year.
