Requires tattoo artist license applicants to complete at least 1 year of training in a certified shop under a licensed tattoo artist who has been licensed in Tennessee for at least 3 years, or licensed in another state for 10+ years

Out-of-state tattoo artists may obtain a Tennessee license by showing proof of at least 2 years of professional experience in another state, using business licenses, tax records, or similar documentation

Supervising tattoo artists must sign the state's apprenticeship completion application to verify the apprentice has met training requirements

Tattoo artists who were in business in Tennessee on October 1, 1996 are exempt from the apprenticeship requirements

Takes effect January 1, 2026
