Department of Correction must pay $85.00 monthly to active or retired employees who adopt retired department canines, exclusively for the dog's medical care

Applies to canines retired due to age, service-related injury, or any other reason

Employees must maintain medical records for the retired canine and submit copies to the department by June 1 each year

Employees must notify the department within 30 days of a retired canine's death, at which point monthly payments terminate

Effective July 1, 2025
