Requires all firearms to be stored in locked containers or equipped with tamper-resistant safety devices when not carried by or under the control of the owner, with violations classified as a Class A misdemeanor.

Bans large-capacity magazines (ammunition feeding devices holding more than 10 rounds), with possession a Class B misdemeanor and manufacturing/selling a Class A misdemeanor; law enforcement exempted for official duties.

Requires most private firearm sales and transfers to go through licensed gun dealers, with exceptions for family gifts/inheritances and temporary transfers; violations carry fines of $500-$10,000 and a 2-year firearm possession ban.

Creates an extreme risk protection order (red flag law) system allowing law enforcement, family members, or dating partners to petition courts to temporarily remove firearms from individuals who pose a risk of bodily injury to themselves or others, with orders lasting up to 12 months and renewable.

Takes effect July 1, 2025, and is cited as the "Protect Kids Not Guns Act."
