Vacancies for judge, district attorney general, or public defender occurring after the standard qualifying deadline are governed by the qualifying period in § 17-4-308(j)

Statewide political parties may select nominees for these judicial vacancies using any method authorized under party rules

Party nominating body chairs must certify nominees to the coordinator of elections by the deadline in § 17-4-308(j)

Independent candidates for these positions must qualify by filing nominating petitions under § 2-5-104

Took effect immediately upon becoming law (passed February 9, 2026; approved February 23, 2026)
