Local school boards and public charter schools must adopt policies prohibiting students from using wireless communication devices (cell phones, tablets, laptops, gaming devices) during instructional time, effective July 1, 2025

Teachers may allow device use for educational purposes, and students may use devices during emergencies, for health management, or as required by IEPs, 504 plans, or individual learning plans

Students with disabilities may use wireless devices for assistive technology to maintain or improve functional capabilities

Schools must establish a process to contact parents during emergencies so that device restrictions do not prevent parents from receiving emergency notifications

Teachers may confiscate a student's device for the duration of instructional time if the student violates the school's wireless communication device policy
