Tennessee Department of Health must collaborate with board-approved organizations to create continuing education programs on maternal mental health for physicians, osteopathic physicians, and psychology professionals

Required training topics include best practices for screening maternal mental health disorders, the range of disorders, evidence-based treatment options, and guidance on when to consult versus refer to a psychiatrist

Training must emphasize the importance of involving mothers in developing their own treatment plans

Completion of the maternal mental health course counts toward continuing education requirements for physicians in pediatrics, obstetrics/gynecology, and psychiatry, as well as psychologists and psychological examiners

Relevant boards must periodically update the curriculum to reflect new research; the act took effect upon approval by Governor Bill Lee on April 24, 2025
