Local education agencies (LEAs) must notify parents and guardians within 48 hours when credible threats of violence or significantly disruptive behavior at a public school are reported to state or local law enforcement

Reports made solely to school resource officers or armed school security officers do not trigger the parental notification requirement unless those officers subsequently report to their employing law enforcement agency for further investigation or assistance

LEAs may use existing communication methods to notify parents and guardians of threats or disruptive behavior

Local school boards must report quarterly on the total number of incidents requiring parental notification, both for the quarter and year-to-date

Effective immediately upon becoming law (passed April 3, 2025; approved April 15, 2025)
