Background checks must include searches of state and national sex offender registries and the Department of Health's abuse registry

Private schools must search the state's educator licensure database to verify whether teaching applicants have had licenses suspended or revoked for misconduct

Schools must exclude from employment anyone prohibited by state law from working in nonpublic schools and anyone who might reasonably pose a threat to student safety

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law
