Physicians and podiatrists are prohibited from prescribing, dispensing, or administering medication to themselves or immediate family members, except in minor, self-limited, short-term, or urgent emergency situations

Scheduled drugs (Schedules I-V controlled substances) may never be prescribed by physicians or podiatrists to themselves or immediate family under any circumstances

"Immediate family" includes spouse, parent, child, sibling, or any individual where personal or emotional involvement could compromise professional judgment

Physicians in rural areas may treat immediate family within their regular scope of practice if no other physician is available within 30 miles of their primary practice site

Physicians and podiatrists must maintain records of all treatment provided under these provisions
