Students expelled two or more times for threatening mass violence on school property or at school-related activities must undergo a mandatory psychiatric examination before returning to school

The psychiatric examination must be conducted by a medical professional trained in performing such evaluations to determine if the student poses a threat

Directors of schools and heads of public charter schools cannot authorize a student's return until receiving documentation that the medical professional finds the student is no longer a threat

Applies to both traditional public schools and public charter schools in Tennessee

Takes effect July 1, 2026
