TN HB1734

Requires the Tennessee Department of Children's Services to record all interviews of children conducted during investigations of abuse, dependency, or neglect claims, using either audio or video recording.

Provides exceptions when employees believed in good faith the interview was being recorded but technical issues prevented it, or when unforeseeable circumstances made recording impossible.

Failure to record an interview does not affect the admissibility of child statements or other evidence obtained during the interview.

All recordings generated under this requirement are classified as confidential under existing state law (§ 37-5-107).

Effective date: July 1, 2026.
