Dependent children of law enforcement officers or firefighters killed in the line of duty are entitled to a waiver of tuition, maintenance fees, student activity fees, and registration/matriculation fees at Tennessee public institutions of higher education

Eligible recipients must be Tennessee residents under 23 years of age and must provide official certification from the employing agency verifying the parent's line-of-duty death

Covered law enforcement officers include municipal police, state agency commissioned members (Department of Safety, Wildlife Resources, TBI), sheriffs/deputies, and correctional officers; firefighters include professional and volunteer members

Eligibility continues until the student earns an undergraduate degree/certificate, completes 135 earned semester hours, or attempts 150 semester hours, even if they turn 23 while enrolled

Takes effect July 1, 2026, applying to the 2026-2027 academic year and thereafter; public institutions must post waiver information on their websites
