County-wide fire departments should receive priority funding from county general funds or other revenue sources, with appropriations at least equivalent to the funding level provided to the sheriff's department.

Volunteer fire departments that serve an entire county and request county funding should also receive priority consideration for county fund appropriations.

"Volunteer fire department" is defined as one recognized by the state fire marshal's office and classified by the Tennessee Fire Incident Reporting System (TFIRS) as a volunteer department.

Effective date is July 1, 2026.
