Data centers with power capacity exceeding 20 megawatts must register with the Tennessee Department of Revenue beginning January 1, 2027, providing facility address, operator contact information, power capacity, and names of utility and fuel suppliers.

Electric utilities, water utilities, and fuel suppliers serving registered data centers must report consumption amounts to the commissioner within 30 days of each billing cycle.

The Department of Revenue must compile and publish monthly reports on each data center's fuel, electricity, and water usage on its website.

Data center operators who fail to register or update their registration may face civil penalties of up to $1,000 per day, with a maximum of $25,000; the commissioner may also seek injunctive relief in Davidson County chancery court.

Effective date is July 1, 2026.
