Candidates in local elections (county, city, and school board races) may file written challenges to election results within 10 business days if they believe administrative errors occurred.

Local election certification is suspended while any challenge is pending; other races on the same ballot may still be certified.

County election commissions must investigate challenges and submit evidence to the state election commission within 15 business days.

The state election commission has 21 business days to rule on challenges and may either allow certification to proceed or order a special election if errors could change the outcome.

Filing a challenge does not prevent a candidate from also pursuing a formal election contest under existing law.
