Driver license station staff must ask applicants whether they want a REAL ID compliant or non-REAL ID compliant license at the time of application or renewal.

Applicants must receive and sign a printed document explaining the documentation requirements, permitted uses, alternative forms of ID (such as U.S. passports), and electronic technology differences between REAL ID and non-REAL ID licenses.

Staff must process non-REAL ID compliant license applications for applicants who decline the REAL ID option.

The Department of Safety website must prominently display a statement indicating that obtaining a REAL ID compliant license is optional.
