Tennessee General Assembly honors the memory of Harry Austin, a Chattanooga native born April 2, 1946, who passed away after a distinguished journalism career

Austin began working at The Chattanooga Times as a high school student, later serving as a general assignment reporter, police reporter, and county government beat reporter

Served with the Tennessee Valley Authority from 1980 to 1988, then returned to The Chattanooga Times as an opinion writer and became editor of the Chattanooga Times Free Press opinion page until his retirement in 2013

Received numerous awards and was active in the National Conference of Editorial Writers and the Robert Bosch Stiftung German-American Journalists exchange program

Resolution expresses sympathy and condolences to his surviving family, including partner Kristy Huntley, daughters Karina Allison and Leslie Rust, and grandson Michael Rust
