Memorial resolution honoring Thomas Hayes "Tommy" Schumpert (December 5, 1938 – 2024), longtime Knox County educator, coach, and public servant who lived over 80 years in Fountain City

Served as head baseball coach at Knoxville Central High School (1968-1973), winning the 1973 State Championship, and head football coach (1973-1977), earning East Tennessee Football Coach of the Year in 1973

Elected Knox County Trustee in 1990 and Knox County Executive (now called mayor) in 1994, serving two terms (1994-2002) as the last Democrat to hold the position; oversaw creation of eight new parks and infrastructure improvements

Worked 16 years as program director of Edsouth, helping provide over $16 million in scholarships to more than 870 students

Expresses official condolences to his wife of 68 years, Charlotte Truan Schumpert, and surviving family members
